Comparative visits across contrasting climate settings

Field visits document the environmental and livelihood contexts of participating communities in drought-prone and non-drought-prone districts.

How the study settings were selected

District classification is based on long-term annual rainfall patterns using Tanzania Meteorological Authority data covering 1991–2020. Consistently low-rainfall districts are classified as drought-prone, while higher-rainfall districts form the comparison group.

Why comparison matters

Comparing the two groups helps the study investigate how climate exposure, migration, livelihoods and food security relate to long-term health. The same framework also supports the ecological and qualitative components of CLIMATCH.

Photographs and observations from study visits provide context for interpreting quantitative health data and community perspectives.
